There's actually a story behind my shoe choice. So the other day I was complaining about my Vogue subscription expiring and my mom threw an issue of Real Simple at me. I get cranky when I don't get my monthly dose of fashion magazines. Anyways, I went straight to the "fashion" section of Real Simple and saw an interesting spread about treating red as a neutral. I've heard that one before, but they suggested pairing it with purple, teal, or animal print. I was pleasantly surprised to see this because their usual fashion stories are about wearing on trend items if you're 40 or 50, which hopefully you can tell I'm not. I don't own much cheetah or zebra print but my closet is exploding with purple so I tried that look first. I've worn variations of this outfit multiple times and usually it was with my turqoise flats because they perfectly match this top. I'm not sure I love the red ones but they were a refreshing change and good practice in choosing the unexpected piece.
I think I mentioned before that its so easy to find those "go-to" outfits that look great no matter what that sometimes we forget mixing and matching yields cute AND original outfits. I came up with this new way of creating outfits: I chose one piece to be the focus, ignore the pieces I usually wear and literally take random clothes out of my drawers. Every time I'm skeptical that I'll find something that works, but trust me, its foolproof.
