The Color Purple

Hey Guys! Not to be that weird person that talks about the weather, but its been CRAZY windy here. I walked home from school today and lets just say my skirt got blown up one too many times. At one point I looked like a cartoon pushing with all my might just to walk forward. Weather issues aside, this was a perfect Wednesday outfit. This dress doesn't require much styling because it has a defined waist and cool details in the bodice. Tights and boots made it a little fancier and wintery. I realized yesterday that my dresses don't match anything else in my closet, but as Olivia pointed out, its because most of them are unique and look good without styling. As for this dress, my family in Spain sent it for Christmas with the tan sweater I wore last week. They always get me eccentric pieces that I wouldn't have picked out in the store yet they always become my favorite pieces. A few things they've sent me over the years are this bag, sweater, and boyfriend cardigan. ¡Gracias familia!

Land Ahoy!

Hey Guys! Today started off kind of crazy with this weird tornado storm thing that had winds up to 60 mph! I'm glad I pick out my outfits the night before because the pitch black, rainy outside made me want to wear head-to-toe sweats. I'm pretty happy with how this outfit turned out, but some gold necklaces would have been perfect. I have a few long, gold chains that I lost recently and I was running all over the house looking for them. Either way, I like the crispness of the outfit and the overall nautical feel of the stripes and buttons. For another occasion this outfit would look great with killer black pumps. Anyways, time for bed! Its only Tuesday and I'm exhausted. One last thing- probably by Friday I'll premier a new (exciting) section of the blog. Keep reading! Top: Gap

POP! of Color

Hey Guys! Uggh for once its actually been a long weekend and I'm glad I have school. I was sick and had to miss a few things I'd been looking forward to. I'm almost better now and a bright outfit really cheered up this Monday. This super thick cable-knit from Gap is so comfy and a wonderful shade of pink. I planned on wearing it with an oxford underneath, but it was way too hot at 70 degrees (I thought it was fall!?). Instead of subduing the color I piled on some bright shoes and this cool '60s vibe watch. My school has these HUGE countdown clocks in the hallway, which, combined with the accompanying beeps, made the watch kind of pointless, but hey it looked cute! I kept makeup simple with bronzer, mascara, and a cool blue eyeliner. Maybe its just the picture, but I think its exactly the color of my eyes. Happy Monday!

TGIF!

Hey Guys! Its been a great week of revitalizing this blog and returning to my normal daily outfit posts. I love this new lace skirt from Target and after many changes I decided to wear it with a simple white oxford. It has an elastic waist which makes it a little odd to wear high-waisted without a belt, but I like how it looked a little lower on the hips. The high boots added a little attitude and youthfulness to a potentially "officewear" look. If you can't tell, I cut six inches of my hair last week; it was taking too long to style and getting in my way. I've been thinking about cutting it for a little while and last Wednesday at 11pm I was just like "You know what? I'm done with this long hair!", took some scissors, and cut. I'm happy with this outfit because it
really epitomizes my style. I like things that are polished yet feminine, and simple with pretty details. Top: Target

Shades of Grey

Hey Guys! I'm really happy with this outfit. I usually pick out what I'm going to wear the night before and yesterday I was frantically running around trying to find something. Originally I was going to wear this dress but my mom informed me its was going to be 70 degrees (false!). My next choice was this grey dress with crochet details. I was being a little closed minded about what to pair it with so I just tried every sweater in my closet. Sometimes you make the best outfits when you randomly match things together and tada! they just work. The look was flowy so I stole a skinny belt from my mom to add some shape. The grey boots worked nicely with the relaxed, autumn feeling of the outfit.

I love this shot! I'm trying to be more artistic rather than realistic with my photos. My sister usually takes them but, like any good big sister, I tell her what to do. Thanks Liv!

Officially Obsessed

Hey Guys! It's been awesome to have my normal lifestyle again so I can actually do things besides eat, sleep, homework and field hockey. Today I gave into winter and packed up all my bright, flowy summer clothes. It was kind of sad but I got really excited about wearing all my jackets and comfy sweaters. One thing that really challenges me with winter clothes is the lack of different silhouettes. I end up wearing jeans at least three times a week and then get so sick of them that I wear leggings or tights for the rest of the freezing cold winter. It was 35 degrees out when we left the house this morning and its only getting colder....
Since there aren't many skirt-friendly days left I decided to wear this sequin number from Loft. I absolutely love it but sometimes its a pain to style because of the shape and sequins. During the holidays I wore it with sweaters or festive tops and there seems to be something inherently "Christmas Party" about it. This summer I went in basically the opposite direction and created a bohemian look here. I liked how the belt look so I kept that and added the light yellow tee and little black flats, which I finally found at the bottom of my backpack after two months of searching. The earrings added a little sparkle. While its hard to define the look of this outfit I think that makes it more interesting. Its so easy to pick up a vibe from a certain piece and just go overboard with the styling. Don't get me wrong, sometimes its fun to dress up like someone different, but it can get a little costumey.

Back in Black (and Blue)

Hey Guys!
Once again it has been a long time since I've last posted, but I have many cute outfits to catch up on and a lot more time to devote to blogging now that my field hockey season is over. Bear with me while I go back in time to recreate a few must-see outfits of the past few weeks. I'm starting with what I wore today because I finally feel unconstricted by what my team is wearing to school or what I have planned. Last week I got a few new winter pieces at Target and I fell in love with all the lace items they had. From classics like skirts and blouses to pieces I'd never imagined...lace cardigan? leggings?

I had to wake up early today to finish some homework so I didn't get to spend as much time as I'd hoped creating a great outfit that encorporated this top. I'm never the type of girl to do this, but I think I tried on at least six outfits this morning. It was hard to find the perfect cami that either sharply contrasted or perfectly blended into the lace. Also, my ripped skinnies just weren't working and I finally settled on a classic black cardigan with blue flats for a pop of color. Any ideas for next time? If its not too scandalous I was thinking leggings with a cropped jacket or maybe layered over a simple dress for a cool textured look. Both looks would be great with my grey ankle boots.
I'm thinking about making some changes to my blog and I'd love advice as to what you guys would like to read. I think the "Fashionable Friend" posts are interesting and hopefully Olivia can show some of her outfits soon. I've been inspired by Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere to start posting on food I make and some other bloggers write about neighborhood restaurants, boutiques, and events. These type of posts would be scarce seeing as I live in a suburb of 12,000 people that contains three restaurants: Panera, a pizzeria (using the term generously), and a greasy yet amazing fastfood place. Of course I do occasionally wander out of my cave into the wonderful city of Chicago which is brimming with unique places to eat and shop. I'll think about it over the next few days and try to make these posts a little less schiztophrenic.
