Tea Party

Hey guys! I just came back from a wonderful birthday tea party at the Drake. Tomorrow is my friend Claire's birthday so a few of us went downtown for a celebration this afternoon. The food is delicious and the decor is beautiful. Below is a picture of the two of us as the PowerPuff girls at our field hockey team's halloween party. Since I love dressing up, I took advantage of the event and wore a floral pencil skirt, slouchy cream tank and grey cardigan. I wasn't going for a specific look, but it ended looking preppy and the tank made it more modern. I'm happy with the look, especially the nice mix of textures. The skirt is tighter and shiny while the top is loose with embroidery details at the top and the cardigan is cashmere with pearl accents. Buttercup and Blossom

Different look with the cardigan buttoned up.

I wish I had more skirts like this. Its a little small, but I bought it cause it was so cute. The skirt is pencil silhouette yet it has pleats on a bias.

Winter Day

Hey guys! Its still chilly out here so I tried to make a cute wintery outfit. The cream sweater just screams winter for me and the skirt made the look classier. I usually wear this skirt with the shirt tucked in, because it has gold detailing at the top, but with the sweater over it looked like a new skirt. The boots are amazingly comfortable and my current favorite shoe. (It changes every month) The leggings pulled together the outfit since the skirt looked weird with just boots. I've actually already worn a similar outfit when I saw "Jersey Boys" downtown, but it didn't go on the blog so nobody knows :)

Sweater: American Eagle Outfitters
Cami: Aeropostale
Skirt: Ann Taylor Loft
Leggings: Ann Taylor Loft
Earrings: Nordstrom Rack
Boots: Nordstrom Rack
Beautiful earrings I got for Christmas. My friends said they looked like handbags.

Black boots are necessary for every wardrobe

Oh ok so I curled the front of my hair last night since I didn't have too much homework and it turned out pretty nice. Since most of my hair is naturally wavy I just left it that way and perfected the strands that frame my face. First, I put my damp hair in curlers, then I shook it out a little and lastly I clipped up the frontmost (is that a word??) pieces so they wouldn't fall in my face.

All That Glitters is Tiffany's

Hey guys! I'm so excited cause its been snowing all day and it makes everyday a little better when there's snow on the ground. Clearly I'm a winter baby. On that note, my birthday's coming up and I'm trying to decide what to get. There's some options in the photos below. Anyways, I'm really happy with this outfit. The skirt is new so I wanted to show it off by not wearing any other statement pieces or covering it up with a cardigan. I could honestly wear a white tee everyday and make it look so different. Black tights are kinda necessary in 8 degree weather. I wanted to wear a little silver necklace, but I don't have a cute one. (ENTER birthday present) So I settled for the bracelet and hopefully I can redo the outfit with new jewelry.
Love the profile shot

Tee: Old Navy
Skirt: Wet Seal*
Tights: ?
Shoes: Hand-me-down
Bracelet: Tiffany's

Closeup of pattern and bow. I bought this cause it looked so holiday-ish yet trendy. I've seen a lot of skirts in this cut, but the metallic pattern is fresh. And the bow makes me feel like a present....in the best way possible.
Option #1 for birthday present. I love the simplicity and chicness of this Elsa Peretti for Tiffany's necklace. Also, I don't know anyone who has it and thats always a plus.

I like this one too, but its much more popular and simple. Haha therefore it is a lot cheaper, which is better for me. I don't know what I'm going to get. Any suggestions?

A Blast from the Past

Hey guys! Wow, I really have been failing at posting lately, but life is back to normal so it should be more consistant. I recently got a package from Spain and I haven't worn everything yet. This adorable sweater is the featured piece today. I paired it with brown leggings for comfort and because the brown is more unique than the normal black. The belt was necessary to cinch the baggy sweater and the shoes added a bit of metallic to the jewelry-less outfit. I love side-braids; they're my new go-to hairdo when a ponytail just seems too boring.
From the minute I saw this sweater I thought: SEVENTIES! I love how its the perfect kind of baggy, especially with the puffy 3/4 length sleeves. Also, since its long, you can wear it with just leggings to juxtaposition the slim leg and bigger top. The pattern is great. All the colors are subdued and they blend into each other. I can't name the year exactly, but the knit is definitely late 60s/early 70s.
Sweater: H&M (Spain)*
Leggings: Ann Taylor Loft*
Belt: Vintage
Shoes: H&m (Spain)

pretty accurate picture of the knit
Gold flats

I didn't mean to be smiling creepily, this picture was meant to show the side-braid with wispy hairs framing the face.

Neutrals

Hey guys! Second day of finals and continuing the comfortable outfits. For the first time in a while I didn't plan out my outfit the night before and it was one of those times where it worked the first time. I've definitely been standing in front of my closet for like an hour after trying on 7 outfits. I like how there's no color in this outfit except for the tiny thread of purple in the bag. The dress is super comfortable and falls differently than other things I own. Black leggings are a must for any cute/comfortable combo and so are the boots. The sweater was for detail in the ruffles and to add more layers to the outfit. It didn't hurt that it keeps me warm.
Sweater: Ann Taylor Loft
Dress: Old Navy*
Leggings: Ann Taylor Loft
Boots: Nordstrom's Rack
Bag: Old Navy

Different look with the sweater unbuttoned

I've had this checkered bag forever and it still goes great with everything. The color scheme and pattern makes it feel kinda Marc Jacobs: girly and urban at the same time. I love how this picture turned out, it totally shows off the bag with nice background detail.

Oxymoron

Hey guys! Its that time of year again: finals week! So the next three days are devoted to how you can be comfortable and adorable with minimal effort. The oxymoron i'm referring to in the title is "Cute Sweats." The picture above is me wearing the same clothes I wore to school, but in a relaxed way. This year I changed up the usual sweatpants week and tried to incorperate sweats in a subtle way.

So this is my first look from Tuesday. I kept the sweats component with the Abercrombie sweatshirt and layered a striped cami under the white tee from some detail. I also did light jeans because they contrast with the navy and the rips give it a little edge. My sister failed to get my feet in this picture, but there's a picture of my shoes at the bottom
Sweatshirt: Abercrombie
Tank: Ann Taylor Loft
Tee: Old Navy
Jeans: American Eagle Outfitters
Flats: Zara
Belt: Old Navy
Bag: H&M (holiday package from Spain!)

Oh my gosh, my relatives in Spain sent us a package a few days ago full of holiday presents and I loved everything. I really needed a big bag that could hold folders and stuff so this was perfect. The color is more of a rust orange in real life--its so unexpected. I love it. Also, since I don't have to haul around by boring black bag for school, I can show off my purses this week.

RED FLATS. These shoes seem like they would match nothing yet they match everything. I like how they unexpectedly brighten up any outfit, like this boring jeans and sweatshirt suddenly seem interesting. They add a girly detail and pop of color.

So the hair challenge is officially done. As you can see this is the famous two-seconds-rushing-no-effort fancy bun. Actually, if you're outfit is really put together it can relax the look a bit and still look cute. Clearly I didn't succeed.

Going for a Drive

Hey guys! Despite the increasingly chilly weather I've been in a tights/leggings phase. I think it gives you so much more creativity and ability to play with textures. I liked this outfit a lot because it had girly, classy and urban elements. If there was one thing I could change, I would add some more metallic in earrings or bracelets. I have so many challenges going already, but a personal goal of mine is to wear everything in my closet and drawers atleast once. If an entire year goes by and I haven't worn something, I know I'm either not comfortable in it or it doesn't fit in with the rest of my clothes. This jacket is one of those pieces that makes a statement yet doesn't necessarily match many outfits. The dress is great; I love the wine color and goddess shape. I originally bought it for a party and suprisingly I've worn it many times since.
Dress: Old Navy
Jacket: Wet Seal

Day 7 Makeup Challenge: I have basically been going through every color of eyeshadow in my makeup kit to create different looks. Today was a navy shadow that faded to blue with some brown eyeliner. I have momentarily misplaced my mascara so that needs to change soon.
Tools: Covergirl Espresso Eyeliner, blue eyeshadow

Day 7 Hair Challenge: Today I wore a side braid with my hair down. I started with the bangs braided into it, then brushed them out in front and finally pinned them back for this picture. I think they looked the best braided in, but it didn't stay without hairpray. The beauty of this hairstyle is that the simple addition of the braid makes it look like you actually made an effort in the morning. I'm still working through the hairstyles from a book, but after that I'll be on my own.
PS- This has nothing to do with style (not that I ever go off topic....) ANYWAYS: I passed my drivers ed test today!! yay!! So now I can get my licence on June 3rd and I don't have to take the test at the DMV.

Gossip Girl Remix

Hey guys! I've been thinking about how uncreative my blog titles are and this one just came to me. The headband, ring and dress remind me of Blair's preppy style on Gossip Girl, while the half-ponytail, leggings, and tall boots remind me of Serena's bohemian luxe look. This outfit was amazingly comfortable. I realized today that I could live in leggings, boots and dresses for the rest of my existence. Unfortunately, people would start to notice....Anyways, this dress was a gift from my family in Spain for Three Kings' Day last year. I'm super excited because their package got lost in the mail over Christmas and we're finally getting it on Saturday. I love the color of the dress and the fact that it has long sleeves, but the drop waist is not the most flattering for people under 6 feet tall. I wore these exact same leggings last week, but I feel like if you dress them up differently they just blend in, especially since they're not the focus of each outfit.
Dress: Gift
Leggings: Ann Taylor Loft
Boots: Nordstroms Rack
Headband: Gift (from Kohl's)
Ring: Gift from my grandparents
This picture shows the detail in the top of the dress

Day 6 Makeup Challenge: (yes, I'm aware that I skipped day 5 because I was pretty busy on Friday and hope to post those pics soon.) Changing up the makeup is a lot harder than the hair because you need different products. I'm trying to do different styles with the same basic products, which gets a little difficult. Today consisted of brown eyeliner smudged all around the eye and a light purple eyeshadow just below the crease. I constantly reapplied Burt's Bees pomegranate chapstick throughout the day as the blasting heaters make my lips crack like the desert.
Tools: Covergirl Espresso Eyeliner, Burt's Bees Chapstick with Pomegranate Oil, purple eyeshadow

Day 6 Hair Challenge: I switched up the half-ponytail from last week by adding a gold headband that my friend gave me for my birthday. It looks plain tan in the picture, but it has little flecks of gold. Even though the headband craze is coming to and end, I still enjoy wearing one now and then to spice up a hairstyle.

Blue and Gold

Hey guys! Today was another early morning history session: fun, fun, fun. Its been absolutely freezing theses past few days so a turtleneck was perfect. I considered pairing it with a pencil skirt or corderoys, but jeans worked out the best. I added gold accents in the earrings, necklace and shoes. Along with the hair, the outfit gave off a kind of girly, studious look.

Sweater: Old Navy
Jeans: Target
Necklace: H&M
Earrings: Gift from Nordstrom's
Shoes: H&M
Finally a picture in focus

Day 4 of makeup challenge: The star of the makeup look today was some red lipstick. I didn't bring it to school, so it wore off, but I reapplied before this picture. I kept the rest simple with black mascara and black eyeliner.
Tools: Covergirl Black Onyx Eyeliner, Maybelline XXL Strength & Length Mascara, red lipstick

Day 4 of Hair Challenge: I started consulting my hairstyles book for inspiration. Beginning with the easiest, I'm trying to work my way through the hairstyles that might look ok on me. This one is called "The Pullthrough" which really means you make a loose ponytail, divide your hair in two and then pull the ponytail up and around. I'm reading the instructions right now and I realized you pull it UP not DOWN, but it looks basically the same as the picture.

Urban Boho

Hey Guys! Well my face is beyond embarassing in this picture, but it was the only good one of the outfit. I premiered my new black boots with a tan sweater and blue tunic. It turned out the right mixture of neutrals, colors and textures. I am absolutely in love with these boots and will have to try very hard not to wear them everyday.

BOOTS!!!

Sweater: Gift from Spain
Tunic: Old Navy
Leggings: Ann Taylor Loft
Belt: Vintage
Boots: Nordstrom Rack
Earrings: Gift

Day 3 of Makeup Challenge: The main subject of my look today was the eyeshadow. I started by dabbing a little water on, to hold the powder. Then, I brushed dark grey just below the crease and covered it with a violet shadow. The two combined looked more interesting than just the grey. This doesn't count as makeup, but I also wore these little gold earrings that I got two years ago for my birthday.
Tools: grey eyeshadow, violet eyeshadow, Covergirl Black Onyx Eyeliner, Maybelline XXL Strength & Length Mascara

Day 3 of Hair challenge: a side-braid was the look of the day. I was standing in front of the mirror after I did my makeup, about to put my hair into a ponytail when I remembered this challenge. Dang, if I think its hard now, I don't want to think about day 30. The side-braid is probably my favorite hairstyle because it looks like you put effort into it, but really it took like 2 minutes and it frames your face nicely. I'm cracking open my hairstyle books from yesteryear so get ready for some complicated twists and updos. Haha like 7:00am history reviews leave me extra time in the morning. Blahhh well I'll look good on like half of the next few days.
