Hound Dog

Happy Birthday to the best dad in the world! I miss bummin' it together at Italian train stations!

I've been sticking to a black/white theme this week so it was the perfect opportunity to wear houndstooth. I usually wear this skirt with other neutrals, but I've been searching for a pattern that "goes". Any suggestions? Otherwise, I kept this outfit simple with clean lines and silver jewelry.

It's like a Friday for me because tomorrow I'm skipping school to go to support my field hockey friends as they play in the State Semifinals. Good luck girls!

Manic Monday

I'm not sure if I've become more narcissistic or if my sister is better at taking pictures, but I'm liking this more pics per post thing. I've had this outfit planned out for a while and a lazy Monday was the perfect time to wear it to feel put-together. My instinct was to wear this with flats but the boots were right there and they gave it a different vibe. This cascading chain necklace from Stella & Dot is just one of their pieces I'm obsessed with. I have yet another color-less outfit waiting for tomorrow. Guess the cold weather just isn't inspiring me to wear those happy fall tones.

Parisian Schoolgirl

Lately I've been in somewhat of a style rut, so I was so glad to get a little dressed up in this awesome cobalt skirt and sparkly bangles. I felt very Parisian schoolgirl in this look. The blue in the shirt is a different shade than in the skirt, but the vertical lines in both pull it all together. These camel oxfords are becoming my new favorite shoe, especially as the temperatures drop to below flat-wearing weather. Have a great weekend, everybody!

Fashion is Armor

These pics are from Thursday, yet another rainy day. I ditched the rainboots and threw on some turquoise to brighten up the day. I usually consider this skirt 'summery' but with a dark, long-sleeve tee it worked for cooler weather. I'm in love with this chain necklace from Loft and it goes perfectly with all my turquoise pieces.

The fact that I turned to clothes to improve an otherwise dreary day reminded me of one quotation from the documentary "Bill Cunningham: New York". The film is about the life and work of New York Times street style photographer, Bill Cunningham. Although he himself lives frugally, Bill said one line about the importance of fashion that really struck me.

"Some people think fashion is a frivolity that should be done away in the face of social upheavals and problems that are enormous. The point is, in fact, fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life. I don't think you could do away with it. It would be like doing away with civilization." -B.C.

Rain, Rain Go Away

Hi guys, I haven't posted in over a month and it makes me want to cry. Style and fashion projects are what keep me balanced with loads of schoolwork, so I'm always happiest when I'm blogging. Over the past few weeks I've been overwhelmed with college applications and a senior courseload, just like every other 17-year-old I know. I have two rainy day looks to post and hopefully I'll get back on a more regular schedule.

I feel kind of British in this preppy sweater, jeans and rainboots. I bought the boots for Costa Rica this past summer and now I'm incorporating them into my normal wardrobe. Its been a pretty rainy fall in Chicago, so I've been trying out some new rainy chic looks.

On another note, I've been working on a fashion show for my school and last weekend I bought the fabric for my first two looks. So excited!
