Day 20: One Hundred!!!

Hey guys! Guess what?? This is the 100th post and just over one year after I started this blog. I'm still catching up on my 30 for 30 looks but I've also been taking pictures of post-challnge outfits. I feel like there are so many options its even harder to choose what to wear, but in a good way. I always wondered how celebrities got dressed in the morning because they have all the clothes in the world at their disposal. I'd love to have all those designer pieces, but it would be terrifying to face a room-sized closet everyday.

This look embodies my overall 30 for 30 style and I guess my own normal style. The skirt has a crispness while the beaded tee slouches perfectly. It surprises me every time how comfy this shirt is. Its a nice blend of soft, stretchy, and flattering. I tend to wear simple yet pulled-together looks on Monday to ease myself into the week. But now I'm on winter break and loving it!!!

Happy Holidays! I'm leaving tomorrow for the East Coast and I'm in the midst of some very careful packing. I'm tempted to pack half of the 30 for 30 pieces and call it a day. How do you guys pack? Do you meticulously plan each outfit or toss a bunch of cute stuff in a bag? Somewhere in between?

Day 18 & 19: The Good Ole' Days

Hey guys! Simple as it is, I actually had some inspiration for this outfit. Don't hate me ok? I was totally feeling the '90s sitcom mom style. So my jeans aren't over my belly button or hideously unflattering, but the layed-back, neutral look reminded me of Chessie in The Parent Trap. Since I didn't experience much of the '90s culture besides snap bracelets and jelly shoes, I asked my dad the other day how he would describe it. "I can't....I mean...its not...." I think that basically sums it up. When you say 1990s--I think of those creepy kids in textbooks, wearing baggy striped shirts and illfitting pants.

Mostly I was just looking for a casual outfit and most of my 30 for 30 pieces were fancier. I wore this to see Morning Glory in theaters and it was pretty good. Kind of like a less glamorous The Devil Wears Prada. I put this on late in the afternoon, slept over at my friends house, and had to wear it to church the next morning so I guess its day 18 and 19. I know its breaking the rules...blah blah but rules were meant to be broken right? Oh hush, its not like I wore anything that was outside the challenge wardrobe, plus this was just a more hard-core version of the 30 for 30. Imagine if the challenge was to wear the same outfit for 30 days? Now we're talking creativity.

Day 17: Shiny and New

Hey guys! We took these pictures in my sister's newly painted room. Our whole family worked on it and it was really fun, the only drawback was that we had to keep the windows open and it was about 30 degrees out. My room is next and I choose a pretty similar color, with a little more pink.
I was really happy with this look because I never would have mixed these textures. Somehow they all clash yet the neutral colors bring it together. The shirt is wonderfully sparkly, the skirt is classic lace, and the boyfriend sweater is super comfy! Some times I save fancier outfits for the school week, but its fun to dress up and have nowhere to go. Definitely one of the best remixes thus far.

Day 16: Giving Thanks

Hey guys! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I speed walked the "Turkey Trot" race at my church in the morning and went to some family friends' house for dinner. There were a few nontraditional Thanksgiving foods like risotto, roasted portabello mushrooms, and hummus, but those were just as yummy! When the challenge started I thought I was pretty sick because it was going to end right before the holidays. Nobody at school noticed I was repeating clothes so often, but wearing the same dress to multiple holiday parties might have been obvious.

I'm often overdressed (and proud of it!) because all my family gatherings are pretty casual. I fit in this year in this loose, maroon dress and ruffled cream cardigan. I bought this dress for an 8th grade graduation party and surprisingly I've worn it a lot since then. Once I looked at the pictures, I think this would look really cute with brown leather cowgirl style boots. Thoughts?

Day 15: The Misfit

Hey guys! So I called this outfit "the misfit" because I feel like its not as wintery or mature or something as the other 29 looks. Its definitely not a bad thing cause I liked the bright coral cardigan on this super rainy day. This blouse went with the youthful vibe I was channeling. Flats were the predictable shoe choice, but (at least this day) I didn't feel like freezing my little feet off. Keep on reading- there's more to come!

Day 14: Girly Glam

Hey guys! Just catchin' up on my 30 for 30 posts. No worries, I did the challenge consecutively, I just didn't have time to post right away. Better late than never :)

I wore this the last day before Thanksgiving break. Its just simple neutrals with jeans, but the lace and gold flats give it a little pizzaz. I would consider this a very typical look of the challenge. Somehow all my pieces were either very feminine or very businessy--maybe that tells me something about my personal style....Anyways, no divine inspiration, just trying to look decent on the last day of school for a while.

Still Hangin' On

Hey guys! Its been so long since I've posted daily outfits, but I'm here to tell you I'm still alive! Its been crazy at school and somehow I never seem to catch up. Luckily most of my teachers believe in the "Its winter break, no homework!" policy so I'll have time to blog my heart out. As for this weekend I have a wonderful history paper to finish (ahhemm, start). On the bright side, its about fashion! yay haha maybe if I'm not completely ashamed of it I'll post it next week.

Oh I almost forgot- I finished the 30 for 30 challenge! Some outfits were a little boring but I survived and didn't cheat....much. Just kidding, sometimes I changed into my outfit VERY late into the day but it still counts. Hope all you fellow 30 for 30ers had a great challenge! If you didn't participate you should definitely try it sometime. Not only do I appreciate all my clothes more, but it was kind of relaxing to only have a few options. You know that feeling when you open your closet and everything's staring back at you but nothing seems right? Somehow having less pieces makes it easier... Many more 30 for 30 posts to come!

Day 13: The Perfect Storm

Hey guys! Wow! It has been raining like crazy all day yet its super warm....I blame the heat death (look it up, its so much scarier than global warming!!) After wading through puddles for the two blocks from my car to school, my flats were completely drenched through. I'm dying to get some cute Wellies or Hunter boots. Any suggestions?

I didn't really have inspiration behind this outfit. This skirt is the 30th piece-now I've worn everything at least once. I wanted to wear it high-waisted and since its waist is elastic, the belt was neccessary. That got my inspired to do a military/girly look hence the army green tee. While I admire it from afar, I haven't personally gotten into the military look, maybe because my overall look isn't that urban. This challenge has made me appreciate how so few pieces can form many outfits, but its also helping pinpoint what's really missing in my wardrobe.

After school today I lounged on my bed and just listed a bunch of thoughts I have so far about the 30 for 30. I'll probably post them on the last day and see if my feelings are the same. I think my main idea was that I went into this thinking it was one of those fun remixes they do in 17 magazine all the time on a larger scale, but its evoked some deep thoughts about personal style and our obsession with quantity. (umm anyone else really excited about the new Costco??)

Day 12: Sparkle

Hey guys! Another casual weekend look here. I love this top because its really soft and stretchy while the draping and beading makes it more than the average v-neck. Truthfully I only wore this for a few hours to do some homework and lounge around the house. Like the top, these gold flats are comfortable but extremely shiny which makes them more interesting.

Its funny that during the 30 for 30 my real challenge isn't looking cute or not repeating outfits, but finding outfits appropriate for more casual situations. I feel like a fool wearing a lace skirt with a blouse at the movie theater when its 20 degrees out. My default for casual wear is jeans but I don't have any really unique cuts or colors. Man this not shopping thing is just making me realize how many things I don't have! Ok, calm down....meditate.....I don't need to go shopping.

Day 11: Effortless Equestrian

Hey guys! So I wrote this post the actual day I wore it, last Saturday, but like the computer genius I am I just deleted it. That's cool. I'll try to recreate how witty and insightful I was but I can't promise you my best.

Basically I was looking for a casual comfy outfit to go hang out at my friend's house so I started with the grey boyfriend sweater. It was long enough to wear with just tights and the boots are warm and comfy. Originally I was going to wear a navy tank but when I went to the laundry room to get it I saw this blue oxford. I tried it on just to see and it looked cute, plus it classes up the outfit. Unintentionally I felt very equestrian with super tight pants (not even) and tall boots. Speaking of which, I would love to get some tan creamy leather riding boots when this fun shopping-ban is lifted.

Day 10: Patriotic Prepster

Hey guys! Wow ok sorry for the delay in posting over the last week. Its been craziness with Thanksgiving and such. Luckily I've been taking pictures pretty diligently. One problem with the 30 for 30 is that I actually have to post outfits in chronological order so when I skip one day if effs up the whole thing. MY BAD.
Anywhoo I wore this last friday to school and the Harry Potter 7 movie!! It was so good but a lot darker than the previous ones. I went all out matchy-matchy prepster just cause I was in that mood. Do you guys have those days when you just feel like a certain style? It was super easy and looked crisp without too much effort.

Day 9: Winter Wonderland

Hey guys! I've finally got out of my "casual thursday" mindset even though this week has been quite dreary. It became slightly less dreary today when I got this test back that I actually thought I failed, but turns out I did fine. Phew! Anyways this is not a school blog so I'll move onto the outfit. Weirdly, this outfit grew on me throughout the day and I like it best in the pictures. Sometimes (i.e. yesterday) pictures don't do the outfit justice, but these really worked. Basically I chose the black dress because it's one of the last pieces I haven't worn yet. I haven't worn the cardigan either and luckily they match! The shapes were kinda blah so I added the belt as I was running out the door. The only piece and really thought about was the necklace. Since my clothes are similar day-to-day, I'm becoming more careful with my accessories. This pendant is actually my great-grandmother's earring on a chain ( like I mentioned with Jessica's jewelry DIY).
As a teenager I feel required to say something about how awesome Harry Potter is and how excited I am for the movie coming out tonight and how pissed I am that I'm not going at midnight. Its ok though, cause I'm not a die-hard fan, just a regular fan. Don't freak out, I've read all the books and everything. TGIAF

Day 8: Jewel Tones

Hey guys! Do you like the funky door hanging? It's been getting dark too early to take pics outside so I'm taking advantage of our brightly painted house as a new backdrop. My outfit today had an different silhouette, which I'm not sure I liked, but overall I'm happy with the look. A certain friend told me the boots were "peter pan-ish" so I unfolded them, which for some reason had never occured to me. The combination of the slouchy top, stiff skirt, knit tights, and suede boots created a cool mish-mash of fabrics.

When planning my outfits I feel like I'm wearing the same thing everyday and yesterday I really started experimenting with jewelry to spice it up. I was inspired by Jessica of http://www.whatiwore.tumblr.com/, who did a post on a DIY pendant earlier this week. She recommended attaching a fun pin or earring to a chain and creating a whole new necklace. As I was riffling through my mom's jewelry box, I found this fabulous silver pin with blue gems and knew I had to transform it into a necklace. It didn't match today's outfit so you'll be seeing it soon. I borrowed this bracelet (necklace wrapped around 4x) from my mom and the purple stones went perfectly with this top. Stay tuned for a jewelry related surprise!
