Day Six

Apart from my prom and graduation dresses, this is my first maxi experience. I always thought my legs would look stubby in them but somehow even horizontal stripes turned out ok. This trusty white tee (with sequins!) probably gets worn a little too often because it matches every style. The long necklace flows with the lengthening look of the skirt. I tried the skirt with a few other tops and found the stripes go with everything. Yay for maxis!

P.S. Saw the Katy Perry movie today and it was so fun! There were four people in the theater so guess who was singing along...

Independence Day (Five)

Hope everyone had a lovely Fourth! While looking for patriotic garb in my closet, I realized that almost every piece for the 30 for 30 is a shade of red, white, or blue. That made things easy and I chose one of my favorite skirts. The pleats, sequins, and bright colors made for a festive look. We had a barbeque at a family friend's house and watched various firework displays on our drive home.

The 4th of July always seems like the halfway marker in summer but now that my school will be starting in late September, there's plenty of summer left! I can't wait to explore Chicago, relax on the beach, and go on our family road trip.

Day Four

{top-Old Navy; shorts-F21; shoes-Loft}

We finally have electricity!!!! Wooooohhh! I will never take technology for granted again. It's still near the triple digits so I have the fans blasting.

My pics got a little out of order so this isn't actually day 4 but I'll keep posting for the 30 for 30 challenge. This was back when I used to think it was hot but it was actually about 85. Needed to throw on a simple, cool outfit and the hot pink sandals added some fun color. I rarely wear this tank because I have a lot of other coral but it's perfect for a steamy summer day.

Back to the 21st Century

{The Girl Who Played With Fire: I read the first of the series this winter and finally got around to the second. Granted, I can only read while the sun is up, just like the good old days.}

 Hello internet universe, nice to see you again. We have been without power since a very brief storm hit about 48 hours ago. When I was younger, a few hours without power was cute and cozy. When it's 100 degrees out and there is no air conditioning in sight, not so cute. I have been escaping to various places around town to cool off. Here are a few of my favorite (power outage) things.

 {I have always been a Starbucks fan but it has now become my home away from home. It has cold caffeinated beverages, air conditioning, and light- what more could a girl ask for?}

{While crop tops are inappropriate in 98%of life, I'd like to think they are acceptable when temps haven't gone below 90 for a week....}

Day Three

I have a lot more casual days in the summer so I'm sticking (literally) to tanks and shorts. The earrings, shoes and crochet detail have somewhat of a Central American influence. This tank falls into my very large wardrobe category of White/Cream lacy tops. What can I say, they go with everything!

Day Two

I had the idea for this outfit ever since I bought the skirt, but the resemblence to my high school gym uniform made me hesitant to even try it on. With the excuse of the 30 for 30, I threw on the brightest top, skirt, and necklace I own, all together. The pictures don't show the pure flowy-ness of the whole look, but I liked it. Thanks to the wonderously burning temperatures, I spent about two seconds outside and still came in sweaty. Awesome.

One of the few times I did go outside, my friend and I went for a target run. Got a new (and my first) maxi skirt that will make its blog debut soon. Luckily I had one spot left of my 30 pieces! Now the temperatures just need to return to the double digits for me to wear a floor-length skirt.

Inspiration

{feminine summer outfit from Prada}

While wide awake at 1 am this morning I started flipping through the March issue of Vogue with the beautiful and talented covergirl Adele. I hate ripping up new magazines so this one was ok for tearing out some inspiration. So there ya go, everything a girl could want on a scorching summer day: pretty pastel pleats, a spunky British pop star, and a silk designer gown. Stay cool everyone!!

Day One

For my first challenge outfit I started with a bright skirt and sequin tee. My friend gave me these turquoise drop earrings for a past birthday and my black sandals have become a summer staple. I went out for a yummy lunch at a local bistro and visited with some family in the afternoon. Simple start to the 30 for 30! Last time it took a good two weeks or so to start getting wacky outfit combinations. We'll see what this challenge has in store.

30 for 30 is back!

Ahh summer. For the first time in a few years, I will actually be in town all summer. I'm working to save up for college this fall but I also need something fun to entertain me! While rereading Julie and Julia (about one woman's Julia Child cooking challenge), I was inspired to start a little challenge of my own.

I did the 30 for 30 challenge last winter but I think summer clothes and style will be different. Essentially, the challenge is to choose 30 pieces (including shoes, excluding accessories) and wear exclusively these pieces for 30 days. In the winter I had more different types of clothing with sweaters and such but it was easier to make a variety of outfits with layering. I have a few more pieces to decide on but here goes Day One!

New Orleans!

We visited the ever crazy New Orleans over Spring Break and had a blast! It was my first time and it struck me how it is unlike any other city I've ever been to. There are definite remnants of colonial times with influences from the Caribbean. I spent a few days at Tulane's campus but we also walked through Jackson Square and ate beignets at Cafe du Monde. Delicious!
